Murata sensors aimed at consumer, automotive applications

Murata has announced the mass production of a series of low profile surface mount rotary position sensors aimed at consumer and automotive applications.
The devices in the SV03 series measure 11 x 12 x 2.1mm and weigh 0.4g. According to Murata, by detecting the angle of rotation of a switch, the sensors provide a cost effective rotary switch and feedback sensor. An example application is as an airflow adjustment switch within a domestic air conditioning unit.
The sensors are available at a lower cost than the company's earlier SV01 range, due primarily to a review of the materials used in the construction. The devices are designed for long service life applications and rated at up to 300,000cycles. Murata states that the devices have a high precision, providing rotational measurement within +/- 2% across the whole 333.3° degrees of rotation. Operating temperature range is from -40 to +125°C, making the series suitable for use in a range of automotive applications. Operating voltage is + 5 Vdc within +/- 0.5V.
