Intersil has announced plans to use its technology portfolio and track record of innovation to develop power management solutions for applications ranging from cloud computing to mobile devices.

Announcing the initiative a year after he was appointed the company's president and CEO, Necip Sayiner said: "By concentrating our efforts on strategic areas where we have highly differentiated technology, we are positioning Intersil to become a leader in the next generation of power."
The company has three main target sectors in a market said to be worth $10billion a year: mobile; industrial and infrastructure; and automotive and aerospace.
Top of the list is the $6bn mobile device market and Intersil has launched the ISL911xx range of buck-boost switching regulators, designed to extend battery life, particularly in phones and tablets.
Meanwhile, the ISL8270M/71M product family of digital power modules is intended for use in infrastructure applications.
Mark Downing, pictured, senior vice president of corporate strategy and infrastructure power, noted: "Intersil has had a focus on power management before, but we've narrowed the focus because our efforts were spread too thinly. We're now focused on the most challenging designs."
