National to cut 200 jobs
National Semiconductor is set to cut around 200 staff at its wafer fabrication facilities and dispose of ‘certain manufacturing equipment’.
“Our future growth will be driven by higher performance, energy efficient analogue products, more and more of which will be produced on 200mm wafer technology,” said Brian Halla, National’s chairman and ceo.
National currently has three fabs – in Arlington, Texas, South Portland, Maine and Greenock. Most of the 200 job cuts will be at the Texas and Greenock sites. The Texas fab, which mainly runs 150mm wafers, recently ramped a 200mm production line. The Greenock facility, meanwhile, runs 150mm wafers.
