New lcd panel plant for Sharp
Sharp's lcd panel plant, is due to be brought into operation at what it describes as the 'manufacturing complex for the 21st century'.
The plant is currently under construction in Sakai City, Japan and due to begin operations in October 2009.
The company says that the move has been brought about by its confidence in the expansion of the worldwide demand for lcd tvs – notably in China. As a result Sharp will start its operations this October to meet the expected growing demand.
Through cooperation with related companies set to locate on the same site, Sharp says it plans to use the facility to work towards achieving further innovations in lcd panel performance.
Construction began in November 2007 and the total investment so far has been approximately 380billion yen.
