Frank Ploumen, pictured, CTO of IoT platform and applications at Nokia, said: “In addition to delivering industry-leading device management, security and analytics capabilities, IMPACT provides a single, horizontal platform, allowing customers to manage and analyse data across multiple IoT applications. This makes each application richer and the insights more valuable. Our focus is on enabling customers to more easily build and deploy new, high-value services and business models while keeping data secure and optimizing the network infrastructure efficiency.”
New features of the IMPACT platform include: NB-IoT and LoRa Connectivity; Video Analytics; Smart Parking; Smart Lighting; and Vehicle Applications.
Nokia says IMPACT was developed to address a what it saw as a ‘fragmented and complex IoT ecosystem’, with disparate applications and devices. By acting as a common platform, it provides horizontal services that enable the management of IoT devices and applications.
It also features NetGuard Endpoint Security (NES). By analysing traffic patterns from within the network, NES is said to be more efficient than traditional antivirus software, as it cannot be disabled. This, says Nokia, protects IoT devices without requiring any on-board security software.
