NXP not for sale, but open to offers
Rumours circulating on Friday that NXP Semiconductors was in talks with Intel, Qualcomm and Broadcom about a takeover bid have been dismissed by the company's chief executive, Richard Clemmer. However, he added that if the price were right he would consider any appropriate offers.
Clemmer told Reuters that he hadn't held talks with the ceos of the three companies for at least five weeks and that the discussions were about routine customer issues.
Nevertheless, following Texas Instruments' offer of a near 80% premium for National Semiconductor last week, he said he would consider selling if similar terms were offered.
"National Semiconductor got a good deal and I would consider talks at an 80% premium or between $55 to $60 per share," he told Reuters.
