Microsemi has unveiled an auto mode 4port Power over Ethernet (PoE) power source equipment (pse) manager, targeted at SMEs. According to Microsemi, the PD69104A is the most integrated and energy efficient 4port PoE device in the industry. The device works autonomously with no need for a host processor or mcu based system management. Its UART and I2C host interfaces are designed to enable it to be used in larger systems where system wide power management is performed by the host processor.

"Our revamped product line, expanded by the PD69104A, enables customers to add PoE+ in an energy efficient and cost effective manner to new applications such as home gateways and small business routers," said Daniel Feldman, director of PoE Marketing in Microsemi's Analog Mixed Signal Group. "The combination of dynamic power management and emergency power management into a 4port product allows pse vendors to create products with extremely small power supplies, allowing end users to configure their systems in the field according to the specific requirements of the powered devices." The device features built in 0.3Ohm mosfets, an internal dc/dc regulator and integrated dynamic power management for up to 4ports. It also incorporates emergency power management with 3power good inputs and can detect all prestandard PoE devices. The PD69104A is sampling now and will be in volume production in Q2 2011.
