Renesas' mobile division launches today

Renesas Electronics has today announced the launch of Renesas Mobile, a move it hopes will expand its global business structure and double sales in FY2012 from FY2009.

The new division will primarily engage in SoC business in a bid to strengthen the company's product offerings, create a more streamlined management and faster time to market product launches. Renesas plans to target devices incorporating LTE and HSPA+ infrastructure technologies for the growing cloud computing field, as well as markets for mobile phones and car navigation systems, mainly in emerging countries. The company also announced the completion of the purchase of Nokia's wireless modem business. Plans have been made to start a long term joint research cooperation with the firm on next generation communication technologies.
