Semiconductor sales rise ‘sharply’
Worldwide sales of semiconductors have risen sharply in September for the second month in a row, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA).
Sales in September reached $22.6 billion, an increase of 5.9% over September 2006 and 5% higher than August 2007. Similarly, third quarter sales of $67.8bn were 5.9% up on Q3 2006 and13.2% higher than Q2 2007.
SIA president George Scalise, pictured, noted: “Demand from the consumer products sector was robust as sales of semiconductors for traditional consumer applications rose by 35% quarter to quarter.
“Strong sales of mobile phones and personal electronics products were a major contributor to sharp increases in revenue for NAND flash, which rose by 46.2% from the prior quarter.”
According to the SIA, worldwide sales of semiconductors for the first nine months of 2007 are running slightly ahead of its June forecast.
