Semiconductor sales up 1.4% in May
Worldwide semiconductor sales for May 2012 grew by 1.4% to reach $24.4billion, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA). This marks the third consecutive month that sales have grown over the previous month – the longest streak of sequential monthly growth since September 2010.
"The upward trend of global semiconductor sales is encouraging," said SIA president and ceo Brian Toohey. "Recent sales totals are in line with industry projections of modest growth for the remainder of 2012, but a sluggish global economy continues to provide substantial headwinds, limiting more robust growth."
Combined global sales for Q2 increased over Q1 by 6.4%, which is the highest rate since June 2010. However, the sales from May 2012 were still 3.4% lower than the May 2011 total of $25.2bn and 2012 year to date sales were lower across all regions than this time last year.
