Signs of progress, says Freescale’s ceo
Freescale Semiconductor made a gross profit of $125million from revenues of $1.04billion in the second quarter of its 2013 financial year. Sales were marginally greater than the same quarter in 2012, while the gross profit increased by 11%. Yet, despite the stronger showing, the company reported a net loss of $65m.
"Our overall financial results continued to improve both sequentially and year over year," said Gregg Lowe, pictured, president and ceo. "Revenues, operating earnings and adjusted earnings per share all continued to grow and while we are still early into implementing our new strategy, we do see some signs of good progress."
Sales of microcontrollers were $199m in Q2; $22m more than in Q1 and $30m more than in Q2 2012. The company said this was down to growing sales through distribution in Asia and increased sales of applications processors into the general embedded and automotive markets.
Meanwhile, digital networking net sales were $229m, following increased spending on current and next generation wireless networks, while analogue and sensor net sales were $188m, reflecting increases in global automotive production. For the same reason, automotive microcontroller sales reached $272m.
