Single chip RS485 data transceivers provide 5kV rms isolation
Analog Devices has introduced what it claims are the industry's first single chip 5kVrms signal and power isolated RS-485 data transceivers.
Designed to meet the safety isolation requirements of high voltage motor, power and energy control systems, the ADM2682E and ADM2687E devices also feature 15kV ESD protection on the bus pins. Using Analog Devices' iCoupler isolation technology, they combine a three channel isolator and a three state differential line driver. A differential input receiver based on the Analog's isoPower isolated dc/dc converter technology is also featured.
According to the company, component count is reduced by up to 80%, compared to discrete options, and this requires 70% less board space. The ADM2682E and ADM2687E come in a 10 x 13mm surface mount package with more than 8mm minimum creepage and clearance and are optimised to support data rates of 16Mbit/s and 500kbit/s respectively.
