Spintronics research gets €3.8million boost
A new €3.8million project has been launched to help put the emerging field of spintronics on the fast track to industry.
The Spintronic Technology Platform in Rhineland-Palatinate (STeP) initiative, a joint collaboration between Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and the University of Kaiserslautern in Germany, will promote the transition from university research to industrial application.
More specifically, it will bolster research into and the development of magnetic coating systems, which are particularly suitable for use in products such as sensors and memory storage units.
At the core of the research are so called Heusler materials.
The objective is to develop building block systems using state of the art coating systems, which can be adapted to a variety of technological challenges.
