Samsung Electronics is set to report a strong Q4 profit rise on Friday on the back of record breaking sales of smartphones, according to Reuters.
Samsung's handset division is currently its biggest earnings generator, while in Q3 2011, the South Korean company overtook Apple as the world's top smartphone manufacturer. By adding new revenue sources such as mobile processing chips and high end oled displays to its memory chip portfolio, Samsung has not only endured the volatile technology market, but excelled in it.
Reuters says the company is likely to report revenue of 4.7trillion won ($4.1billion) for the period between October to December, operating profit on revenue of 46.2trillion won, according to a consensus of 30 analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S. This would be Samsung's best profit since the third quarter of 2010, up 57% from a year ago and 11% from the preceding quarter. The report adds that in 2012 Samsung is likely to report a 28% rise in operating profit with a 12% gain in revenue.
