Switching regulator has low quiescent current
A 2A, 58VIN step down switching regulator from Linear Technology features Burst Mode operation, which the company claims can maintain quiescent current at less than 85µA.
The LT3980 operates within a VIN range of 3.6 to 58V, with overvoltage lockout protection against transients as high as 80V.Potential applications include load dump and cold crank conditions in automotive applications.
An internal 3.4A, 200m? switch can deliver up to 2A of continuous output at voltages as low as 0.79V. Switching frequency is user programmable from 100kHz to 2.4MHz, enabling the designer to maximise efficiency while avoiding critical noise sensitive frequency bands.
The LT3980 features a boost diode, oscillator, control and logic circuitry integrated into one chip. Its catch diode current sense pin protects the circuit during input voltage transients, while output ripple is maintained at less than 15mV peak to peak.
The part can be supplied in a DFN16 package measuring 3 x 4mm or in a thermally enhanced MSOP16E.
