TI to expand operations in China
Texas Instruments is to invest up to $1.69billion over the next 15 years in its manufacturing facilities in China.
With backing from the government of Chengdu, the company says it will open a new assembly/test operation and expand its existing wafer fabrication plant.
"The Chengdu Hi-Tech Zone has been an excellent location for TI's manufacturing investments in China," said Kevin Ritchie, senior vice president of TI's technology and manufacturing group. "We believe this region offers significant benefits to TI and the more than 100,000 customers we serve."
TI has established 18 offices in China over the past 27 years. Significant investment has been poured into its fab in Chengdu, which opened in 2010, as well as different education initiatives in the area.
