UK among highest growth pholtovoltaic markets in Europe
Europe will account for 70% of the total global photovoltaic (pv) market in 2011, according to research by IHS iSuppli.
The market analyst reports that European pv installations this year will amount to 15.7GW, nearly three quarters of the worldwide level of more than 22.2GW. Europe will be home to the world's two largest solar markets – Germany, with an estimated 9.4GW and Italy, with 3.9GW. The UK is listed among the highest growth pv markets in Europe. The US, the third largest global solar market, is projected to see 2.1GW of pv installations in 2011, IHS research indicates.
However, Europe's stronghold on global pv installations is a decline from 78.1% last year, when European installations reached 12.3 GW. According to IHS, growth for the region will decelerate this year, declining to 27.5% from 120.3% expansion in 2010.
