UK solar powered car heads for outback
A team of students from Cambridge University are to commence a 3000km journey across the Australian outback in a solar powered car.
The students' car, Endeavour, is the only British entry in the Global Green Challenge a race for environmentally friendly vehicles from Darwin to Adelaide on 25 October.
The team says that the vehicle is about 50 times more efficient than a normal petrol fuelled car and has been funded and built entirely by the students themselves. They hope that it could provide a model for green cars in the future.
The British squad hope for a top 10 finish in the race, despite the fact that the £250,000 car will be competing against university and corporate teams with seven figure budgets.
