Washer regulates own energy use
Freescale and Indesit have demonstrated a washing machine that can regulate its own energy use based on cost and availability.
Presented at the recent Freescale Technology Forum, Indesit's Smart Washer features a Freescale ZigBee node, allowing it to adjust its cycle starting time according to energy cost and green power availability. The washer gets this information from the local utility company via a ZigBee enabled internet connection to the Smart Grid.
Stefano Frattesi, Indesit's Innovation for Design manager, said: "The Smart Washer confirms our commitment to innovation for the benefit of the environment and demonstrates our pioneering research in the field of Smart Grid to help reduce energy consumption and provide our customers increasingly innovative solutions."
