Wi-Fi Alliance says Smart TV security lapse is a ‘one off’

Our story from <a href="http://www.newelectronics.co.uk/electronics-news/philips-smart-tvs-open-to-serious-hacks/60520/">yesterday</a>, reporting research that Smart TVs from Philips could suffer from security flaws, has brought this comment from the Wi-Fi Alliance.
"Wi-Fi Alliance takes security very seriously. All of our specifications and certifications include requirements to support the latest generation of security protections. In the case of Miracast, the underlying specification requires device generated pass phrases to consist of characters randomly selected from upper case letters, lower case letters and numbers.
"The recent report of a non compliant pass phrase implementation appears to be limited to a single vendor's implementation. We enforce the requirements of our certification programmes and have been in contact with the company in question to ensure that any device bearing the Miracast mark meets our requirements."
Miracast allows TVs to act as Wi-Fi access points to which nearby computers and smartphones can connect, allowing their output to be displayed on a larger screen. In the instance reported, the password is alleged to have been 'miracast'.
