Three young 'skills stars' employed by MBDA have been selected for Squad UK, which could see them compete in the electronics competitions at WorldSkills Leipzig 2013.
Members of Squad UK will compete for a place in Team UK at the next selection event held in March 2013, with successful individuals then heading to the international WorldSkills event in July 2013.
The competitors were selected from the UK's most talented apprentices, employees and learners after competing in a three day selection event in June. They will now prepare for the next stage by undergoing a specialised training programme.
"By competing in international competitions, the UK is able to showcase the high levels of performance that can be achieved by individuals and organisations through high quality further education, skills training and apprenticeships," said Jaine Bolton, director at the National Apprenticeship Service and UK official delegate to WorldSkills International. "This provides the inspiration for young people and adults to be ambitious in their pursuit of skills to the highest level."
Held every two years, WorldSkills sees 1000 young people aged 18 to 23 compete for medals in more than 40 different skills, including electrical installation and mobile robotics.
