Zigbee launches new lighting standard
ZigBee Alliance has finished developing and ratifying the Light Link standard, which aims to give the lighting industry a global standard for interoperable consumer lighting and control products.
Devices built using Light Link will connect into a single network without extra devices needed for coordination. Consumers will be able to combine products from multiple brands and then control them using the internet.
According to a statement, development and validation was led by GE, Greenwave Reality, OSRAM Sylvania and Philips. TRaC Global provided independent testing services for the first products submitted by Atmel, Ember, OSRAM, Philips and Texas Instruments.
Jos Bruins, ZigBee Light Link working group chair from Philips, said: "ZigBee Light Link provides an easy to use and intuitive approach to next generation lighting that has the backing and support of top tier companies."
The Light Link standard is now available to ZigBee Alliance members for product development.
