Zilog launches 16bit mcu for motor control applications
Expanding its flash motor control range, Zilog has introduced the Z16FMC, a 16bit cisc mcu that is said to outperform most risc microcontrollers in its class. The device features the company's ZNEO cpu and has been optimised for motor control applications. It has 16 32bit general purpose registers that support complex cisc addressing modes and a single cycle instruction set that includes frame pointer support, multi bit shift and multi register push/pop, as well as 32bit math operations.
"With its unique feature set, the Z16FMC offers our customers a cost effective solution in the control of ac and dc motors," said Steve Darrough, Zilog's director of worldwide marketing. "We can now offer a complete reference design for a wide range of applications, which includes featured IXYS power semiconductors."
The device also features a flexible pulse width modulator (PWM) module with three pairs or six independent PWM outputs supporting deadband operation and fault protection trip input.
