500W filter modules target dc/dc railway applications
1 min read
Vicor has announced two new 500W filtered input attenuator modules (FIAMs) for railway applications. The FIAM110 and FIAM072 are designed to provide protection for on board equipment and systems against the effects of power line transients, electromagnetic interference (EMI) and excessive in rush currents.
On board power supplies in rail environments are subject to severe levels of transients and noise that can be disruptive or damaging to systems such as lighting, communications and information displays unless properly filtered. The FIAM110 and FIAM072 are therefore designed to meet the EN50121-3-2 standard for EMI filtering and EN50155/EN50121-3-2 standard for transient protection. In addition, they both conform to RIA 12 surge and transient requirements and are qualified for demanding environmental standards.
The FIAM072 has an input voltage range between 43 and 110Vdc and the FIAM110 between 66 and 154Vdc. Both are said to provide up to 500W of output power, with efficiencies up to 98%. The devices fit the industry standard 'half brick' footprint measuring 2.28 x 2.2 x 0.5in, which is optimised for space constrained designs. According to Vicor, they are compatible with the Mini, Micro and Maxi or VI/VE-200 and VI/VE-J00 dc/dc converters from its brick product portfolio.
