Arrow Electronics has presented a series of new development modules based on the Arrow Embedded Platform Concept (EPC). Since its introduction in 2009, the distributor has expanded the concept with new hardware, software and engineering services to deliver system solutions for a range of potential industries.
The new modules include the Arrow 'CUBE' embedded networking reference design, EPC XKIT02 and XKIT03 starter solutions, an add on module that adds display capabilities to EPC processor boards, and a new dc/dc board.
Based on an ARM Cortex-M3 processor, the Arrow CUBE is a power over Ethernet demonstrator that enables Ethernet networking connection without complex configuration tasks. The stand alone processor board is supplied with energy via either Ethernet or usb, and is equipped with light and temperature sensors. An integrated web server allows for control via an Internet browser, eliminating the need to install any pc based applications.
The CUBE software comes from Arrow's development partner Sevenstax, a supplier of embedded tcp/ip stacks. Thesycon provides the USB-RNDIS stack, which enables the same functionality, even when the board is only connected via usb.
Arrow XKITs aim to provide a straightforward and efficient introduction to the Embedded Platform Concept. They include all necessary boards, software, cables and adapters and are distinguished by a wide range of interfaces and memory functions. True modularity enables components to be exchanged ensuring heightened flexibility to meet the specific requirements of the target application.
The EPC XKITs represent a first step in the creation of an application optimised system with a set of processor systems, power management components, operating system software and interfaces. Processor and power technologies are supplied by manufacturers such as NXP, Atmel, National Semiconductor and Linear Technology, while the systems permit the use of both Linux and Microsoft Windows Embedded.
Under the name ADON02, Arrow's new Display Add-On module is suitable for connection to a range of EPC processor modules. Control and data conversion is carried out by an Altera fpga and the board is equipped with a 240 x 320pixel, LED backlit QVGA-TFT display. In addition, the module features a touch controller and a display with integrated, analogue resistive touch screen.
International Rectifier provides the technology for the latest EPC board in the area of power management, which has been designed for classic industrial applications. The IR3842 SupIR-Buck components are equipped with a power supply for 12V bus systems requiring optimisation in terms of space and efficiency. According to Arrow, synchronous buck converters enable energy efficiency up to 95%.
