Constant current regulators protect leds in solid state lighting applications
1 min read
ON Semiconductor has introduced a new module to its portfolio of constant current regulators.
The NSI50350A is designed to provide a thermally efficient and cost effective alternative to passive/discrete components or driver IC solutions for current regulation of leds. It is targeted at a variety of 1W lighting applications including automotive, architectural lighting and signage.
The regulator incorporates self biased transistor technology and is said to regulate current over a wide voltage range. It is designed with a built in led driver and has a negative temperature coefficient to protect leds from thermal runaway at extreme voltages and currents.
Offered in both DPAK-4 and SMC packages, the module has a 350mA ±10% steady state regulation current and an operating temperature range of -55 and 175°C.
In addition, it has an anode-cathode rating of 5OV, which ON says enables it to withstand voltage surges that are common in automotive, industrial and commercial signage applications.
The NSI50350A is qualified to the automotive AEC-101 standard and is UL94-V0 certified.
