FTDI announces new digital level interface cabling solutions
1 min read
USB solutions specialist, Future Technology Devices International (FTDI) has added two new cables to its usb to digital level serial interface portfolio.
The C232HM-DDHSL-0 and C232HM-EDHSL-0 usb 2.0 multi protocol synchronous serial engine cables are designed to offer a fast, simple way to connect devices with 3.3V logic level interfaces to usb. Both support the usb 2.0 Hi-Speed (480Mb/s) standard.
The cables consist of the company's FT232H usb interface chip on a circuit board encapsulated into the usb connector end of the cable. The FT232H chip is optimised to look after all of the usb signalling and protocols, facilitating rapid implementation. The cables can be used to communicate with devices using a variety of different synchronous serial interfaces, such as JTAG, SPI or I2C. The MPSSE is also said to enable design engineers to implement their own proprietary synchronous serial bus protocols.
Each cable is terminated by ten individual wires, which are single pole connectors that can be interfaced to a 0.1in pitch male header. Measuring 0.5m in length, the cables support data transfer rates of up to 30Mb/s. The C232HM-DDHSL-0 version has a maximum output of 200mA at 3.3V, while the C232HM-EDHSL-0 has a maximum output of 200mA at 5V.
