When compared to general CFP2 28Gbit/s connectors, the company says insertion loss and return loss of the CFP2 56G connector are better by approximately 2db. Mechanical features are compatible with the CFP2 28Gbit/s connector, making the two parts mating compatible. Cage, connector cover, heatsink and clip can all be used with the 56Gbit/s variant.
The company notes that it will be launching a CFP8 connector system for 400G applications in the future.
