Load switch safeguards USB ports
1 min read
Diodes has announced a single channel load switch, which it says ensures complete protection from interconnects subject to the risk of surges and short circuits. Optimised for regular USB and other hot swap applications, the device is provided in a small form factor SOT25 package, offering a footprint of only 9mm2.
Operating over an input voltage range from 2.7 to 5.5V, the AP22802 is said to set a typical current limit of 2.7A to prevent overloads. The load switch offers circuit designers the choice of active low, or active high enable inputs.
The device's under voltage lockout function ensures that the internal power switch remains off until input power level has reached a minimum of 2V, even if the switch is enabled; a facility in the design of single channel hot insert systems.
To safely handle output voltage when the switch is disabled, the AP22802's automatic discharge function and internal N-MOS power switch provide a dependable resistive discharge path.
Further protection features include: over temperature detection with auto recovery, reverse current blocking and controlled rise time. An open drain flag output is also included, hosting an in built 6ms deglitch to prevent false reporting of over current and over temperature conditions.
