Microbattery designed specifically for wearables

As the demand for wearables increases, so does the demand for smaller, lighter, more powerful batteries.

VARTA Microbattery has developed a series known as CoinPower, which it says has been designed to meet these demands.

This product line is said to comprise the CP 1254 A3 and CP 1654 A3, along with the CP 1454 A3. According to VARTA, it has a capacity of 85mAh, a diameter of 14.1mm and a weight of 2.4g.

VARTA recently increased the capacity of types CP 1254 and CP 1654. “Their compact and stable cylindrical design, coupled with a high energy density and exceptional performance, make the CoinPower cells a perfect power source for all wearables and hearables,” Herbert Schein, CEO, says. “Rapid recharging, high resilience and a sturdy build round out the profile of the CoinPower series.”

VARTA believes its ‘high-capacity’ button cells enable simple insertion into user devices with a smaller risk of damage, along with exacting precision in the mechanical design of the battery configuration.

The CoinPower series has generated multiple patents, including the i-Lock system. VARTA claims that this, together with the circular form, enables an energy density up to 30% greater than comparable microbatteries on the market.
