An internal charge pump complements an external N-channel MOSFET switch, which allows the driver to remain on indefinitely. The LTC7000/-1’s 1Ω gate driver can drive large gate capacitance MOSFETs with short transition times, making it suitable for both high frequency switching and static switch applications.
The LTC7000/-1 operates over a 3.5 to 135V, 150VPK input supply range with a 3.5 to 15V bias voltage range. It detects an overcurrent condition by monitoring the voltage across an external sense resistor placed in series with the drain of the external MOSFET.
When the MOSFET driver senses that the switch current has exceeded a preset level, a fault flag is asserted and the switch is turned off for a period of time set by an external timing capacitor. After a predetermined time period, the LTC7000/-1 automatically retries.
The device is designed to receive a ground referenced, low voltage digital input signal. The 13ns rise and fall times, when driving a 1000pF load, minimise switching losses.
Additional features include adjustable input undervoltage and overvoltage lockout, adjustable current limit and current monitoring.
The LTC7000-1 is available in a MSOP-16 package with four leads removed for high voltage spacing. Three operating junction temperature grades are available, with extended and industrial versions ranging from -40 to 125°C, automotive version ranging from -40 to 150°C and a military grade ranging from -55 to 150°C.
