The ultra-compact resin mould module is the first of its kind to receive this certification from an NTN service provider. In conjunction with Skylo's NTN service, the Type 1SC-NTN ensures dependable satellite communication for a wide range of low-power IoT applications.
The Type 1SC-NTN is fully compatible with the latest Rel-17 NTN standard, enabling satellite data communication capabilities without necessitating extensive hardware design changes. The module’s small form factor helps to remove development barriers through its compact packaging and by providing engineers with compliant NTN connectivity.
The module includes GPS/GNSS, OpenMCU, and an integrated SIM, helping it support the latest applications such as dual-mode cellular IoT.
In addition to its functionality, size, low power, and cost-efficiency, its high level of integration helps to accelerate time to market while lowering development and deployment costs for customers. Target uses include wearable, tracking, and medical monitoring devices, as well as M2M communication, smart meters, and other size-limited IoT edge products.
“We are excited to expand the Skylo Certification of the Type 1SC globally. This expanded certification will benefit everything from asset tracking to farming to smart meters, and potentially even consumer devices. It also demonstrates our continued dedication to introducing seamless, accessible, and affordable satellite connectivity everywhere,” said Vijay Krishnan, Vice President of Strategic Partnerships at Skylo.
Murata will exhibit the Type 1SC-NTN at CES Las Vegas 2025 as well as at the Mobile World Congress 2025 in Barcelona in March.
