The single output device delivers 12A, while the dual output configuration offers either twin 6A outputs or one 9A and one 3A. In quad format, the regulator supplies four 3A outputs.
Supplied in a 9 x 15mm package, its 1.82mm height allows it to be mounted on the backside of the PCB.
According to Linear, only eight external ceramic capacitors and four feedback resistors are required to regulate four independently adjustable outputs between 0.6 and 3.3V. Separate input pins enable powering of the four channels from different or common supply rails from 4V to 20V.
The four channels are switched 90° out of phase to minimise input ripple at the 1.2MHz default switching frequency, but can be synchronised to an external clock ranging from 850kHz to 1.5MHz.
When operated with an external bias supply of more than 4V, the LTM4643 can regulate from an input supply voltage as low as 2.375V. Output overvoltage, overcurrent and overtemperature fault protection are included and the device is said to operate in temperatures ranging from -40 to 125°C.
