Photocoupler cuts board size, cost and power consumption
Toshiba has introduced a high speed photocoupler for servo motors and programmable logic controllers.
The device is operable in both plus and minus LED input currents. Toshiba says it enables developers to eliminate multiple bridge circuits – reducing board size, power consumption and BOM.
The TLP2391 removes the need for bridge circuits by combining two opposite parallel LEDs, allowing it to support both sink and source logic signals.
It is operable at a low input current of 2.3mA (at Vcc=3.3V) and features a low supply current of 1mA.
Supporting throughput of up to 10Mb/s, the TLP2391 is well suited to communication interfaces, such as RS232, RS422 and RS485, for industrial and related applications. It has a guaranteed maximum propagation delay time of 100ns with distribution of 30ns (max) and skew of 40ns.
