Power amplifiers extend battery life
Microchip has expanded its rf power amplifier portfolio with the addition of two new devices.
The SST12LP17E and SST12LP18E are designed to extend battery life and have a power added efficiency of up to 38%. They are offered in an 8pin, 2 x 2 x 45mm QFN package and are targeted at embedded WLAN applications in devices such as mobile phones, game consoles and tablet pcs.
The SST12LP17E requires only one dc bypass capacitor and is said to be the smallest fully matched power amp in its class. The SST12LP18E is offered as a lower cost, lower voltage alternative to the company's SST12LP14E power amp. Microchip says it offers the lowest operating voltage of any of its rf power amps, over an operating temperature range of -20 to 850C.
The devices feature operating voltages from 2.7V with linear output power up to 18.5dBm.
