Power factor corrected LED driver
1 min read
A new power factor corrected dimmable LED driver for residential and commercial lighting applications has been announced by ON Semiconductor.
According to ON Semi, the NCL30000 eliminates the need for a dc/dc conversion stage by by using a critical conduction mode (crm) flyback architecture to achieve a high power factor (>0.95) in a single stage topology. Constant on time crm operation is suitable for isolated flyback LED applications, as the efficiency can be attained even at low levels.
The device is housed in an 8pin surface mount package and applications include LED driver power supplies, LED based down lights, TRIAC dimmable LED based lamps and power factor corrected constant voltage supplies.
It has an operating temperature range of -40 to 125°C and is designed for use across environmental operating ranges specified in the majority of solid state lighting applications. The device has a startup current of 24µA (typical) and a low operating current of 2mA (typical).
The NCL30000 is RoHS compliant and is available in an eight pin SOIC package
