Power management solution supports integrated, low power current monitoring
ON Semiconductor has introduced the CAT2300 current mirror with switch controller, which has been optimised for use with the company's SENSEFET power mosfet devices.
The new module is optimised to provide accurate current monitoring in a range of fixed and portable equipment applications and is being offered as a single chip alternative to a discrete circuit approach. ON claims it is able to provide sensorless precision current measurement of 0.9 to 5V power supply rails.
In addition, the device performs current mirroring to 70mA and integrates logic level on/off control of the power mosfet and its own circuitry. This is said to reduce power consumption to virtually zero. Current consumption is rated at less than 1µA in shutdown mode.
Housed in a 2 x 3mm TDFN-8 package, the CAT2300 has a current consumption of less than 1µA in shutdown mode and is suitable for use over the -40 to 85 ºC operating temperature range. A soft start function is also included.
