The latest devices – scheduled for general availability in May – have been designed for use with AC/DC switch mode power supplies targeted at consumer and industrial applications.
The 700V and 800V CoolMOS P7 families have been integrated into one package with a fifth generation controller. A newly implemented cascode configuration for the high voltage MOSFET, in combination with an internal current regulator, provides fast startup. Meanwhile, light load performance is optimised through an active burst mode with selectable entry/exit thresholds.
The device also features new algorithms to minimise the switching frequency spread between different line conditions and to simplify EMI filter design. Device protection includes input over-voltage protection, brown in/out, pin short to ground and over-temperature protection with hysteresis. All protection features are implemented with auto-restart to minimise interruptions.
