USB port bridges to multiple communications standards
Exar has launched the XR2280x family of USB to Ethernet bridge ICs. The devices are said to offer an 'unprecedented' level of integration, combining a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 hub with up to four ports, controllers for 10/100 Ethernet, I2C, EDGE GPIO and up to four UARTs.
By providing multiple communication standards from a USB port, the XR2280x range will allow legacy product designs to be adapted for connection to the IoT. The devices will also find application in industrial equipment, factory automation, networking, test and POS terminals and other embedded systems.
"Exar is the world leader in UART and bridging products, with broad offerings in the market," claimed John Cantelmo, VP of connectivity products. "The XR2280x family provides … a level of integration that no-one else offers. This allows designers to expand the connectivity of low cost processors using a standard high speed USB port, giving customers a cost effective solution."
In addition to the XR22801, which integrates one UART, Exar also offers the XR22800 with no UART, and the XR22802 and XR22804 with two and four UARTs respectively.
