Artesyn 600 Watt Power Supply Selected for Surgical Operating Table
A leading international manufacturer of advanced surgical operating tables has selected Artesyn’s LCC600 series 600W fanless power supplies for their next generation medical product.
The company approached Artesyn with a specific set of requirements. Providing a 24V output and the ability to drive the motor in the bed were relatively common and straightforward needs. More challenging was the need for no audible noise for patient comfort, support for constant current mode operation and medical safety approvals. Artesyn’s LCC600 series conduction-cooled AC-DC power supplies fit the bill with a minor modification to support the motor drive specification.
The LCC600 series is a family of fanless, conduction-cooled AC-DC power supplies that can deliver their full 600 Watt power output across a wide operating temperature range of minus 40 to 85 degrees Celsius. Unlike many power supplies on the market, which typically require output derating above approximately 55 degrees Celsius, an Artesyn LCC600 supply fed from a nominal 110 Vac input is capable of maintaining its full 600 W load capacity up to its maximum baseplate temperature of 85 degrees Celsius. This is especially cost-effective for users who would otherwise need to budget for larger or additional power supplies.
The LCC600 power supply features a universal 90-264 Vac input with optional 180-305 Vac input – enabling it to be used virtually anywhere in the world without adjustment. Models available feature a single 12, 28, 36 or 48 Vdc output, with wide adjustment, and 5 V standby voltage output. It has a 4 x 9 inch footprint and is less than 1U (1.57 inches) high (228 x 101 x 39.8 mm). Typical efficiency is 93%.
The Artesyn LCC600 power supply is housed in a robust fully-sealed enclosure with optional IP65 protection against the ingress of dust and water. This makes it ideal for applications that require the power supply to be located in the same outdoor environment as the equipment it is powering, such as bulk power for outdoor signage and for telecom installations such as antenna and base station equipment.
The power supply is equally suitable for indoor use, such as in control consoles, indoor signage and medical applications, where the absence of cooling fans can help minimize dust and noise. The LCC600 power supply is fully approved to the international EN60601-1 medical safety standard and can be used in non-patient contact and non-patient critical equipment.
