Point of Load Regulator Designed For Defence Applications.
1 min read
Point of Load regulators are normally designed for convection or forced air cooling & require considerable derating when used at higher temperatures. - Less than ideal for use in defence equipment.
The Roband RO-MIL-2200 was designed specifically for defence applications, being suitable for conduction cooling & operating over a -55°C to +125°C range without any derating.
It is also designed & manufactured in the UK, avoiding any ITAR restrictions.
Point of Load regulators allow designers to minimise copper losses by using a 5V bus and providing the final step down to the lower voltage required by DSPs, FPGAs, ASICs and Microprocessors at the "point of load". However, Point of Load regulators are normally designed for convection or forced air cooling and require considerable derating when used at higher temperatures. – Less than ideal for use in defence equipment.
The Roband RO-MIL-2200 is a high reliability, high efficiency regulator, operating over a -55°C to +125°C range without any derating, addressing the issues normally associated with using Point of Load regulators in defence equipment. Its black anodised aluminium screened case has four screw fixings underneath for vibration support and to optimise thermal impedance when conduction cooling.
A single part can be programed to provide any voltage from 0.9V to 3.3V from a nominal 5V supply. The output is overload and short circuit protected with a peak current of up to 8A. Other safeguards include overvoltage transient suppression and over temperature protection. The unit also has a remote disable facility.
The RO-MIL-2200 is fully manufactured at Roband's Charlwood Works, adjacent to Gatwick airport, and therefore not subject to ITAR restrictions.
Roband also have a range of RO-MIL DC-DC Converters, as well as high voltage power supplies and 400Hz sources. They are able to easily produce variants and semi-custom versions of all of these standard products to optimise them for specific applications.
In addition, Roband have many decades of experience in the design and manufacture of full custom power solutions for defence applications.
Roband are the leading independent British manufacturer of standard and custom power supplies for the defence and avionics markets. They can count BAE Systems, Selex, MBDA, Ultra, Thales and Goodrich amongst their customers and have been building power supplies since 1956.
