R&S unveils ‘world’s fastest’ EMI test receiver

Rohde & Schwarz has unveiled the ESR EMI test receiver with a broadband architecture it claims allows standard-compliant EMI measurements up to 6000 times faster than other solutions.
The test receiver is available in two different models with frequencies ranging from 10Hz to 3 or 7GHz for EMC certification on commercial equipment. R&S says the device covers all commercial standards relevant for test houses and EMC labs used by electrical equipment manufacturers and their suppliers.
The device features diagnostic tools such as spectrogram display, real time spectrum analysis and IF analysis designed to help developers detect and eliminate EMI. It also has a touch screen interface which R&S says makes it particularly easy to use.
Using 'domain scan', an FFT based receiver technology, the company says that standard-compliant EMC measurements which would normally take hours can be completed in seconds. This method is said to offers advantages when the DUT can only be operated for short periods for testing, such as in the automotive and lighting industry.
