45nm application processor announced
The latest addition to Samsung's ARM11 series is the S5P6440 - an application processor designed using the semiconductor giant's 45nm low power cmos process technology.
It has been created with next generation consumer devices, such as personal navigation devices and is based on an ARM1176 cpu core which runs at either 533 or 667MHz clock speed. The cpu core and on chip hardware are connected through a 64bit AXI bus running at 166MHz and it incorporates 2d graphics acceleration hardware. The S5P6440 is compliant with the OpenVG API standard which Samsung says enables a range of graphics functions without losing image quality.
A nand error correction hardware is also included, supporting NLC nand flash devices, as well as an integrated dram memory controller which supports both mobile DDR and lower cost DDR2 memory chips.
The S5P6440 is scheduled for shipment in Q3 2009.
