Academics get Silver Medals
Two of the UK’s leading electronics academics have been presented with the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Silver Medal, recognising outstanding personal contribution to UK engineering.
Professor Chris Toumazou of Imperial College (pictured) was recognised for his expertise in current mode analogue signal processing and for creating three successful companies – including Toumaz Technology. Meanwhile, Professor Gehan Amaratunga of Cambridge University’s Engineering Department, was rewarded for his development of silicon devices with built in high voltage power switches.
Presenting the Medals, Lord Browne of Madingley, RAE president, said: “The greatest inventor is the engineer. Engineers approach a problem in a manner which is both visionary and realistic – they draw simultaneously on science and business to provide solutions to challenges through the application of new technology.”
