ACAL Energy gets ready to install fuel cell system

ACAL Energy has announced plans to install its FlowCath fuel cell technology system at Solvay Interox's Warrington plant this summer.
The fuel cell engines are based on platinum free cathode technology and have been designed as an economical alternative to diesel and gasoline generators.
The FlowCath power module is being trialled at Solvay as a backup power system to understand exactly how the technology will operate in a real application. It is expected to significantly reduce the balance of plant costs by eliminating the need for hydration, pressurisation, separate cooling and other mechanical sub systems commonly required when using conventional PEM fuel cells.
The project, which has been partly funded by the Technology Strategy Board, is currently undergoing completion at ACAL Energy's new laboratory testing facilities. "We're well on track for this important next stage," said Bob Longman, vp engineering, Acal Energy. "Our progress in the laboratory stages has exceeded our expectations and we are increasingly confident in the performance of the whole system."
