AMD to deliver first ARM server chip in 2014
AMD has revealed plans to sample its first ARM based processors for servers early next year.
The first will be a 64bit, ARM Cortex-A57 based server SoC codenamed Seattle, which will ship in volume during the second half of 2014.
The cpu is expected to to run at or greater than 2GHz. AMD says it will deliver up to 4x the performance of its recently announced AMD Opteron X-Series processor, with significant improvements in compute per watt.
In addition, Seattle will offer 128GB dram support, extensive offload engines for better power efficiency and reduced cpu loading, server caliber encryption, and compression and legacy networking, including integrated 10GbE.
