AMD unveils new Opteron 4300 and 3300 series processors
AMD has announced nine new mid range and entry level Opteron 4300 and 3300 series processors based on the Piledriver core.
With up to 15% lower power consumption and 24% better performance per watt versus previous generation processors, the new modules are said to deliver increased computing capability with lower power consumption for cloud providers and web hosters.
"The Piledriver core architecture provides optimised performance, power and price," said Suresh Gopalakrishnan, general manager of AMD's server business unit. "With a simple upgrade, existing customers can obtain more performance and improved energy efficiency and new customers will obtain compelling value and ROI."
Servers based on the new processors are now available from Supermicro as well as the AMD SeaMicro SM15000 platform. Additional server offerings are expected to be available soon.
