Sales of high end AMOLED display panels were up by 16% in Q2 of this year, largely driven by demand for Samsung smartphones.
According to market research firm IHS, global shipments in Q2 amounted to 53.1million units, up from 4.6m in Q1.
Shipments were up by an even more impressive 41% from 37.6m in Q2 2012.
"Samsung is driving the rapid growth of the small sized AMOLED market, with the company responsible for most of the supply and the demand for the panels," said Vinita Jakhanwal, director for mobile and emerging display technologies at IHS.
Samsung's Galaxy S4 smartphone was the biggest single user of AMOLEDs in Q2, with shipments of the 4.99in panels used in the device reaching 10m units per month.
Total shipments for small and medium sized panels in all applications during Q2 amounted to 743m units, still largely made up of lcd displays.
OLED accounted for just 6% of the overall small and medium display market, and represented only 9% of the total mobile handset display business.
