ARM, TSMC to optimise 64bit processors for FinFET process technology
TSMC and ARM have announced a multi year agreement to collaborate beyond 20nm technology and deliver ARM processors on FinFET transistors.
The companies say the collaboration will optimise the next generation of 64bit ARM processors based on the ARMv8 architecture, Artisan physical IP and TSMC's FinFET process technology for use in mobile and enterprise markets.
"By working closely with TSMC, we are able to leverage TSMC's ability to quickly ramp volume production of highly integrated SoCs in advanced silicon process technology," commented Simon Segars, executive vp of processor and physical IP divisions at ARM. "The ongoing deep collaboration with TSMC provides customers earlier access to FinFET technology to bring high performance, power efficient products to market."
