Atmel expands picoPower AVR range
Atmel has added three 6pin microcontrollers to its picoPower AVR range. The ATtiny4, ATtiny5 and ATtiny9 are said to be aimed at size and cost constrained high volume consumer applications requiring processing power and low current consumption.
Pin and code compatible, the parts offer 512byte or 1kbyte of flash memory, 32byte of internal sram, a four channel 8bit a/d converter (in ATtiny5), an analogue comparator and a 16bit timer with PWM.
Offering up to 12MIPS at 12MHz, the devices reduce the time spent in active mode and increase the time spent in power saving sleep modes, reducing current consumption. Atmel also claims tinyAVR micros need only half the code memory size compared to other microcontroller architectures.
